The lawn in front of the Jacob Spori Building filled on July 1 for the Summer Music Festival.
The event was free and all were invited to attend “an informal night of music under the stars on the Spori Quad.” Many students were in attendance, and some audience members even came prepared with blanket and snacks.
Performances included both original music and covers. Songs included “ One Last Thing,” “Never Alone,” “Silver Moon” and “He Doesn’t Know.” Performers used the guitar and drum.
The Chocolate Train opened the show with “It’s Summertime.” The song was accompanied by guitar and drum. JDG, a group made up of three performers who called themselves ‘J,’ ‘D’ and ‘G’ performed rap music, which made the audience laugh. The group had a guitar, and one of the performers made the drum sounds with his mouth to accompany their rap.
The audience laughed each time the ‘G’ member of the group screamed “what” at a high feminine pitch. The show closed with “My A Cappella.” They performed a Michael Jackson medley, which was complete with red and black attire and the famous white glove of Michael Jackson.
Songs included “Thriller,” “Billy Jean,” and “ABC,” which received a loud audience response.
They performed the Michael Jackson’s medley in honor of his death almost exactly one year ago.
Riley Edgington, a freshman studying general studies said he liked the show.
“I like the free part. BYU-Idaho students will go for free things. I must also say the location is awesome”
